CONGRATULATIONS!
Welcome to the Kents Hill Community!

A letter from some of our students:

We are so excited to be the first students to welcome you to the community!  We all hope you’ll join us in September.  There are many great things about being a Kents Hill student.  Each of us have made it a point to be a part of many different activities, student groups, and teams here, and we’d like to tell you about what makes our school so special.

Tyler Drolet:  I’m a junior from West Newbury, Massachusetts and this is my second year at Kents Hill.  I think the best part of the Kents Hill experience is that everyone gets involved with campus life.  It’s easy to find people who share the same interests as you.  Plus, there’s always something to do on or off campus ranging from movie nights in the student union to weekend shopping trips to Freeport and Portland.  I think academics are one of the most important things here; there are a lot of courses to choose from.  When I’m not doing school work you might find me in the art room working on a photography project, or training gates on the hill at our Alpine Center. Did you know we have over 20 different athletic options?  What impressed me most as a new student was the school’s mission and core values, which we all strive to live by each day.  As a proctor, I’ve learned to be more responsible and to help my fellow students, especially in the dorms.

Maryke Moreau:  I’m a junior here as well, and I started at Kents Hill as a freshman.  I chose Kents Hill because I wanted a balance between my academics and athletics.  I love hockey and soccer, and was really happy to be able to play them here at a competitive level.  We’ve had a really exciting year for all of our teams, and have had some great accomplishments.  Besides sports though, there are a lot of things to be a part of here, like the Student Council and the Jazz Band.  I love performing at the music assemblies in the winter and spring!  I enjoy all of my classes here, but Physics is my favorite.  The science program is really strong with some challenging and diverse classes to take.  Most of my teachers have advanced degrees, which is something I hope to have one day, too!  The best part is, my classes are all pretty small and my teachers are very accessible, so I can always ask them for extra help when I need it!

Mun Ky Cho:  I’m a sophomore from Seoul, Korea.  I’m in my first year here, and I really like it.  I was surprised when I got here that there were students from 18 different countries.  It’s been fun to learn about how students live in other parts of the world.  I’m taking some pretty challenging courses this year, and can’t wait to start taking a few AP classes next year (there are 12 to choose from, plus almost 100 other classes!)  But besides the academics, I’ve found that there are lots of other opportunities for me.  I can try new things and meet new people, things I didn’t have the chance to do back home.  Here, I’m playing ice hockey and soccer, I’m a peer counselor, and also part of the international club.  I hope to see you here in the fall!

Melody Glynn:  I’m a freshman from Mattapan, Massachusetts.  This has been an incredible year so far!  I feel accepted, cared for, and challenged all at the same time!  I like being part of this small community, but it actually feels more like a family to me, especially in the dorm.  My classes have gone well this year, getting me ready to go on to more challenging work in my sophomore year.  I had fun playing on the soccer team this fall and on the basketball team this winter.  It was a great experience to test our skills against teams from all over New England.  I think my favorite thing this year was Winter Carnival, where we all are on different teams and compete against each other in a bunch of different contests.

Again, welcome to the Kents Hill community.  We really hope you join us this fall, and please feel free to come and visit in the meantime.  We would love for you to spend the day with us, sit in on classes, and see what it’s like to live on “the Hill”, as we say.

Congratulations!

-Tyler, Maryke, Mun Ky, and Melody

"If people whom you may or may not know have problems or troubles, then it's not only courteous but your duty to help them as best as you can. For me no one is truely a stranger.  It is very important to try your best and be a friend for someone.  Even if you find some who don't like you, there are going to be some whose lives you could change for just listening and being a friend."
