"Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living." – Miriam Beard

At Kents Hill School, we believe that different experiences, both at home and abroad, are an integral part of a sound and diverse education. We encourage all of our students to discover the awareness that comes with traveling to new places, finding new cultures and making new friends.

Currently Kents Hill School sponsors exchange programs with two schools in two countries:

Kent College Pembury, Tunbridge Wells, England
Lycée Notre Dame, Dijon, France

Students traveling abroad to England do so for the winter trimester of their sophomore or junior year. Students traveling to France do so during their March vacation for a two-week exchange. When space is available, juniors and seniors can apply for the Ocean Classroom program, through the auspices of Proctor Academy, for the fall trimester.

We gained so much from these three months,  The day we left, saying goodbye was difficult.  This experience was extremely enriching personally and culturally,  The school, the food, the teachers, the friends, the trips (to Augusta, Freeport on the weekends), the American culture ... We would have loved to stay the whole year.  We hope that the next students enjoy the same experience.

“Perseverance means a lot to me; it means working hard, especially as a student at Kents Hill School. Not many people were geniuses when they were born, but if you persevere in everything, it will be so much easier for you to be successful. If you put more effort in, and don’t give up on things easily, then you can achieve your goal. Perseverance is one of my roads to success.”

At Kents Hill School I was really impressed to discover a real community where everybody gives a bit of himself. Everybody gets involved to make things move there. At KHS, it's impossible to feel alone because somebody will always be there when you are in a bad mood. The teachers are so close to the students, they care about them and they provide some personal extra help so as to lead everybody to the same level. How surprising it is to see cool and relaxed teachers, but at the same time a lot of respect from the students to them. Everybody knows each other. Anyway, to understand and to realize you just have to live it; and it's such luck when you have been to Kents Hill, such an honor. You can only thank everybody who welcomed you so well. And when you leave, you
have tears in your eyes.

At Kents Hill, I have had the opportunity to interact and become great friends with people from around the world. Throughout that time, I never knew how they felt not being able to speak their native language. Going to France gave me an insight into what they feel. It was difficult not being able to speak my home language. It gave me a greater understanding and appreciation for the people that come to other countries and try to live in a new environment.
