The critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Greg Brown brought his incomparable artistry to the stage of the Vivian Russell Theater on Saturday night to kick off the Aleigh Mills Concert Series.
Despite rain and cooler than usual temperatures outside, the Center for the Performing Arts at Newton Hall was warm and intimate as Sami Stevens '10 opened with a set list that included the classics "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" and "Bye, Bye, Blackbird". Her vocal prowess and poise earned her a standing ovation and we're sure many, many new fans. Greg Brown's entrance was met with enthusiastic cheers and applause. He launched into a set that lasted over an hour and a half, including his songs "Canned Goods" and "Hey, Baby, Hey". The concert was a huge success, and sets the stage for further world-class artists to appear on the Russell stage. The next performance in the Aleigh Mills Concert Series will be Arlo Guthrie, complete with his family band, on November 18th at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $55 for general admission, $75 for VIP seating.
