The Alumni Scholarship Endowment Fund was established in 1996 through the leadership of Howard Doyle '35, Robert Irving '40 and Hans "Whitey" Ohlin '40, in honor of Frederick "Moose" Nedvins '40, to provide financial assistance to deserving students based solely on need, without regard to race, religion, creed, sex or national origin.
Frederick "Moose" Nedvins, Captain of Kents Hill's undefeated Football team in 1939, worked with unstinting enthusiasm and persistence to bring Kents Hill alumni of his era together on behalf of the school. It was his dream to establish the Alumni Scholarship Fund as a way "to pay Kents Hill School back for all it did for us." Moose passed away in 1995 before the fund could be formally established, but he would be extremely pleased with the impact the Fund has made in the lives of four outstanding students during the past five years.
The initial goal is to grow the Fund to $1,000,000 ($600,000 in bequests will be received in the years ahead) to help five deserving students a year attend Kents Hill.
You can help build the Alumni Scholarship Endowment Fund by…

The current recipients are Joshua Goellner '08 and Suzanne Ma '07. Important and respected members of the school community, Joshua, from Oceanport, NJ, plays on the Varsity Hockey team and has also made a name for himself onstage with the Ricker Players, while Suzy, from Beijing, China, has been a Peer Counselor and Student Ambassador during her years at Kents Hill. When I came here as a freshman I did miss home, but although it was a totally different world, everyone was so nice to me. It’s been great. It was a good challenge to take on half a globe away. I’ve been a peer counselor in the dorm for quite a while. It feels good to be able to help someone. I’d also never been on a team before. As a freshman in field hockey I wanted to win so badly and would cry if we lost, but now I realize you can’t win all the time, and that good sportsmanship is so important. Sportsmanship is just one example of the core values Kents Hill has taught me.

I looked at several prep schools, but liked Kents Hill the best because of the mountains, the forests, a nice hockey facility and because the teachers and students are close. It just has good vibes. This is my second year here, and Kents Hill has exceeded my expectations. You get to spend a lot of time with those you’re closest to and most enjoy being around. Mr. Richardson had a good influence on me last year. He taught me a lot about history and language. Coach Cockrell has taught me a lot of life lessons, both on the ice and in the classroom, and we’ve been able to bond a lot more because of it.
